How Clients Pick a Salon.

Google treats hair salons and barbershops as appointment businesses. Both are named categories for Google's booking integration, which lets people find a shop on Search and Maps and then sends them to the booking provider's page to finish. Google's partner list includes Booksy, Fresha, MINDBODY, Square Appointments and Squire, and a shop without a supported provider can add its own booking link to the Business Profile. Google says booking providers show on the profile within a week.
The portfolio lives on Instagram. Pew Research Center's 2025 survey found half of U.S. adults use Instagram, 80% of those aged 18 to 29, and 55% of women against 44% of men. TikTok reaches 63% of adults under 30 and 42% of women.
Reviews push clients toward the shop's own channels. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, 54% visit the business's website after positive reviews, and 24% go to its social media.
New Jersey already requires every shop to post its licenses and a list of all services with the charge for each. Google's services editor can hold that same list, with categories, descriptions and prices.
