At the counter

What This Business Needs at the Counter.

Tabs, rounds and a crowd that pays at close.

No cards behind the bar

A box of customers' cards behind the counter is a liability, and a lost one is a problem.

Tabs that can't walk

A tab opened without a pre-authorized card is a tab that can walk out the door.

Fast pours

Bartenders need drink buttons and modifiers that keep up with a three-deep rush.

Split and auto-gratuity

Groups split at close, and big parties should get the gratuity added without an argument.

IDs at the door

Checking IDs by eye slows the line on a busy night.

Selling through a drop

A Saturday night cannot stop because the Wi-Fi did.
The system we'd put in

Square for the Bar, NCC for the Club.

Square pre-authorizes the tab card and publishes its pricing. A nightclub needs the door and the bottle service too, which is where NCC's Reflection POS comes in.

Also in the lineup

NCC Reflection POS. For nightclubs: ID scanning at the door or table, VIP and bottle service, overpour and comp tracking, and terminals that keep selling through an outage.

Pre-authorized tabs

Preauthorize a customer's card for a set amount so the tab can be closed and paid.

Auto-gratuity by party size

Add a fixed-percentage gratuity manually or automatically, based on party size.

Dark mode

A dark display to cut brightness in low-light bars and dining rooms.

Tip pooling

Tip pooling and auto-gratuity are both listed features.

Live open checks

Monitor live sales, including open and closed checks, during the night.

Square's restaurant pricing page describes temporarily preauthorizing a customer's credit card for a set amount so they can pay when closing the tab, and adding a fixed-percentage gratuity manually or automatically based on party size. Its bars page describes tip pooling and auto-gratuity, routing orders from the bar to a kitchen display, and live sales including open and closed checks. Its restaurants page describes a dark display mode for low-light rooms. We did not find which Square plan each of these sits on in the published table, so we confirm it for your setup.

National Computer Corporation's nightclub page describes automating age verification at the door or at the table with ID scanning, pre-authorizing tabs and splitting or combining checks, managing reserved tables, VIP areas and bottle service, beverage enforcement that watches overpouring, comps and discounts, and happy hour pricing applied automatically. It says each terminal works on its own and shares information when the network is back, so the team keeps selling through a network problem. NCC does not publish pricing.

Square's offline mode keeps taking cards when the internet drops, but offline payments must upload within 24 hours and no later than 72, and the business carries the risk of a decline. Clover also advertises pre-authorized tabs and payments when the Wi-Fi stops. For a venue with a door, a VIP list and bottle service, NCC is the answer.

Batch is an authorized Square reseller in Square’s closed, invitation-only ISO sales network. Square is a trademark of Block, Inc.

Surcharging in New Jersey

New Jersey caps a credit card surcharge at what processing actually costs you, disclosed before the customer is charged: on signs at entry and checkout, and on the menu for restaurants.

Visa caps a surcharge at your rate or 3%, whichever is lower, on credit only. Debit and prepaid cards are never surcharged.

Notice before you start
