Passaic

What We See When a Passaic File Lands.

A Passaic file is usually a grocery, restaurant, bakery or retail shop that has been open for years, deposits every day, and has been told no by a bank. That is a fundable file, and the job is to size it to what the deposits can carry.

Where the businesses are

Main Avenue

The central business district, about 28 blocks from Monroe Street to Pennington Avenue. Storefronts at street level, with some offices above.

Monroe Street and Market Street

Commercial corridors entirely inside the Urban Enterprise Zone, dense with owner operated storefronts.

Broadway and Lexington Avenue

Broadway's eateries district and the Lexington Avenue county road running north into Clifton.

The industrial complexes

Big Apple West, the Passaic Industrial Center and Willett Street, all inside the Urban Enterprise Zone.

Passaic packs a large city into a small one. The New Jersey Department of Labor's 2020 Census tables count 70,537 residents on about 3.13 square miles, roughly 22,500 people per square mile, which makes it the seventh densest municipality in the state. The Dundee Dam and Canal, finished in 1861, made it an industrial center, and the industrial complexes at Big Apple West, the Passaic Industrial Center and Willett Street sit inside the Urban Enterprise Zone.

The business base is growing. The city's 2024 Urban Enterprise Zone development plan counts 1,663 private establishments in 2022, up 23.7 percent since 2017, and 18,682 jobs in 2021, and says most employed residents work in administrative and support services, health care and retail. The same plan describes the Eastside as a predominantly Mexican American business community and records a desire in the city's Jewish community for more kosher food businesses.

Main Avenue is the downtown, about 28 blocks from Monroe Street to Pennington Avenue under the city's 2021 redevelopment plan, with Monroe Street, Market Street and Broadway around it. Roughly a third of the city sits inside the Urban Enterprise Zone, designated in 1994, including every address on Main Avenue, Monroe Street and Market Street. In the city's own 2024 business survey, owners named high rent, parking and a lack of local financing as their biggest problems.

Industries

What We Place Most in Passaic.

Each one has its own page, written around how that business actually gets paid.

Restaurants and food service

Mexican, Latin American and kosher restaurants and bakeries where equipment failures are the most common emergency.

Groceries and retail

Main Avenue and Monroe Street shops buying inventory weekly against daily deposits.

Food distribution and light manufacturing

Importers and processors paid on terms by the stores they supply.

Trucking and delivery

Owner operators and small fleets serving food distributors and the stores they supply.

How you pay it back

Out of the Terminal, or Out of the Account.

Repay out of your card settlements or a fixed transfer. Your choice.

Split fundingA share of card sales, through the terminal

An agreed share of each day's card settlement is withheld before the rest reaches your account. A busy Saturday remits more, a slow Tuesday less, and a day with no card sales remits nothing.

Fixed remittanceA fixed amount, by ACH

A set daily or weekly amount leaves the business account until the payback amount is met. Predictable to plan around, and the structure the calculator on this site prices.

No conditionYou do not have to switch processors

Terminal repayment is an option, never a requirement. Keep the processor you have; switching is a separate decision, shown to you side by side.

Straight answerWhat we fund ourselves, and what we place

We fund working capital advances directly, from $5,000. Lines of credit, term loans and equipment financing go to funding partners, named in your agreement before you sign, along with how we are paid.

Most funders can only do the second one. Your total is fixed when the advance is approved; how long it takes to get there depends on your sales.

How much could you qualify for

Sized on deposits, the way a funder sizes it. No hard credit pull.

Fixed monthly payments over a set term, for an expansion, a purchase or a refinance.

SBA loans

Commonly Asked Questions

Batch Capital is a New Jersey business funder. It funds working capital advances for Passaic businesses with its own capital, including advances repaid through the card terminal, and places equipment financing, lines of credit and term loans with its funding partners.

My bank turned me down. Can a Passaic business still get funded?
Usually, yes. Banks weigh credit history, collateral and years of tax returns, and many Passaic businesses run short on one of the three. A funder reads the business bank account instead: deposits, negative days and time in business. If those are steady, the file can be priced.
I import and distribute food. What fits a business that pays suppliers before stores pay us?
Usually a line of credit, because the gap repeats with every order. A lump sum advance fits a one time need, such as a large seasonal order or a new truck, better than a constant cycle. Send three months of statements and a sense of your receivables and we will price both.
Is my business in the Urban Enterprise Zone a better file?
Not for a funder. Zone certification changes the sales tax you charge and some state benefits, not how the file is read. What makes a Passaic file strong is consistent deposits, few negative days and a clear reason for the money.
